Ancoras
This dive site is located just outside Cidade Velha’s bay and it is in fact Cidade Velha’s history that the wonder of this site is owed to. |

In 1462 Cidade Velha, formerly known as Ribeira Grande was founded and used as a major trading post in the International slave trade; resulting in a lot of boat traffic in and around Cidade Velha’s bay. At 15 metres this dive site hugs the shore line and is littered with masses of anchors that vessels associated with the slave trade must have lost to the reef. |
| Like all of Santiago’s’ dive sites there is plenty of life to be seen here but most divers get distracted by counting anchors, there’s just so many of them its hard not to. |
